Weaning tips

Wondering wether your baby is ready for solids or not?

The NHS recommends to start weaning from 6 months but some babies show signs that they might be ready for it at some point between 4-6 months old. There are three clear signs which show your baby is ready for their first solid foods alongside breast milk or first infant formula. They'll be able to:

  • stay in a sitting position and hold their head steady
  • co-ordinate their eyes, hands and mouth so they can look at the food, pick it up and put it in their mouth by themselves.
  • swallow food (rather than spit it back out)

Sleeping tips

Some children sleep more than others but it is important to keep a daily routine for your baby to understand the differences between a nap during the day or a night sleep. Our main advice is to stick to the routine as much as possible. Find more information on https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/caring-for-a-newborn/helping-your-baby-to-sleep/

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is a serious risk and 200 babies die annually in the UK. We highly encourage you to read the guidelines to offer your baby the safest sleep possible on both https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/caring-for-a-newborn/reduce-the-risk-of-sudden-infant-death-syndrome/ and https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/

Money saving tips

With the cost of living increasing, the economical adjustment  when welcoming a little one can be even more challenging. We have some advice that could help you save money:

  • Take advantage of the free pregnancy packages like Emma's diary and Bounty when pregnant. Freebies include nappies, wipes, creams, etc.
  • Wait until Black Friday to buy your baby's pushchair and other big purchases. Most of the pushchair companies do very good sales on Black Friday and you could end up saving quite a bit of money.
  • Have a look in charity shops - especially for clothing. Babies grow very fast which means most of the clothing will be small before getting worn out. There are charity shops all around London and some of them are specifically for kids. You will be saving money and helping a good cause at the same time.
